If sources are to be believed, the DOT chief Wanda Teo met the reigning Miss Earth Angelia Ong and ME Organiser Lorraine Shuck to discuss the details about organising the Miss Earth pageant for the first time in Mindanao. However, this won’t be the first time that the ME pageant will be held outside the Philippines capital Manila. In 2008, the Miss Earth pageant was held in Pampanga, and in 2009 it was held in Boracay. In 2010 the pageant was held in Vietnam and 2015 it was held in Austria.

Chances are that the pageant will have to do away with the swimsuit competition, if it gets held in Davao this year, as the ME Organisation promises to respect Davao City's law that states a “no swimsuit” policy for beauty contests held in the city.

Miss Earth 2016 is scheduled to be held on October 15. 21 years old Imelda Schweighart will represent Philippines at the forthcoming Miss Earth pageant. Imelda is an aspirign actress from Puerto Princesa City and has called on President Duterte to ban genetically modified food as she was crowned Miss Philippines-Earth last month.

Philippines has won the Miss Earth crown thrice so far. It was a back to back win for the country when in 2014 the title was won by Jamie Herrell and in 2015 the victory was carried forward by Angelia Ong.
