Fowsia Abdirashid Abdihakin, Miss Somalia 2022 runner-up, has been appointed as the new Miss Supranational Somalia 2023. She has replaced Miss Somalia 2022 winner Iqra Ahmed Hassan who was initially supposed to represent Somalia at Miss Supranational 2023.
Miss Somalia organization made the announcement on social media earlier this month, but no reasons were mentioned by the organizers in their released official statement.
Fowsia is 21 years of age. Born in Kenya and raised and educated in the Dagahaley Refugee camp, Fowsia is an education advocate and an aspiring cybersecurity expert. She is currently pursuing her final year at the university for her degree in computer science.
Fowsia’s advocacy is focused on educating girls, children, and marginalized communities. Besides volunteering at education programs, she is also an environmental and climate change activist. She also believes being Miss Somalia 2022 realized her dream of representing her country on the global stage and drawing attention to challenges in her country.
The stunning beauty will now prepare to compete in Miss Supranational 2023 this July. She is not only the first-ever Somalian representative to join the Poland-based international pageant but also the first Miss Supranational contestant wearing a hijab (head cover worn by some Muslim women).
