Miss Universe El Salvador 2020 Vanessa Velásquez’s national costume inspired by national flower ‘Flor de Izote’

Miss Universe El Miss Universe El Salvador 2020 Vanessa Vela´squez revealed her national costume for Miss Universe 2020 as she took to her social media to share,” Super happy to finally show you our National Costume!” The scintillating costume is inspired by El Salvador’s national flower ‘Flor de Izote.’ The costume is designed by Francisco Guerrero who did an incredible work of months producing every detail by hand.

Yucca elephantipes, popularly known as Izote flower, belongs to the Agavaceae family; it is a 3-10 meter tall shrub, with simple or branched stems, with branches only upwards, with rough bark and thickened at the base. , with simple leaves, grouped and forming rosettes at the ends of the stems.

 

 

The majestic flower is a symbol of pride that showcases the identity and richness of El Salvador’s people and its breath-taking landscapes. The flower’s versatility is reminiscent of our rooted inspiration, appreciation, and love for the emblem because of its ability to offset the planet’s carbon footprint.

It is of importance for being the national flower of El Salvador and at the same time for being an edible flower, which is prepared in various recipes in El Salvador. “In addition, it has medicinal value and the stems are used to create beautiful textiles and nutritious dishes. It’s a reminder to our world and a call for action to protect the environment and to appreciate every blooming flower and plant on our planet,” Vanessa added.

Miss Universe 2020 will host the National Costume competition on 13th May 2021 with a live broadcast. Miss Universe El Salvador 2020 Vanessa Velasquez will represent El Salvador at the 69th edition of Miss Universe on 16th May 2021 in the United States. The winner will succeed Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi from South Africa for the title.
